Piloña

      The "Asturcon" is one of the ancientest and purest horse breeds all over the world. These are many historical references to these horses dated 2.000 years ago, They were even mentioned in Roman cronicles, and men and horses were a very important part within those soldiers troops who fought all over the Roman Empire.
      "Asturcon" breed has been preserved throughout centuries and centuries and; nowadays, it is the last indigenous horse breed in southern Europe.
Pony Asturcon
      During Middle and Modern Ages, the "asturcon" was really important from an economic point of view. They were taken to Ireland in the 15th century where they were really appreciated and even exported to Paris in order to be used to pull small carriages. They were also sold every year, and farmers used them for agricultural works.
      "Asturcones" are 1'25mts tall, depending on the feeding system. They have a small or medium head, wide forehead, and wide nostrills. Their eyes are big, black, and lively. Their ears are small and moveable. The mane are long and hairy; the neck is long, and a bit curved, specially in male horses. The chest is wide and muscled; the limbs are slim but strong; their hoofs are small and round; the tail is hairy and they have slanting hindquarters. The skin is dark and chestnut colour, and really bright.
      "Asturcones" are free and wild animals. Mares give birth in opened air fields. Despite of their size, they are strong and vigorous animals, and they have an original and characteristic way of moving which make them look so natural and bright.
