Piloña

      Piloña, at north borders on Villaviciosa and Colunga municipalities; at south borders on Caso, Sobrescobio, and Laviana; at east on Parres and Ponga; and at west on Nava and Cabranes. It is a member of "Mancomunidad de Municipios del Oriente de Asturias" (important organism which governs in the west area of Asturias).
      From a geographic point of view, its territory is so varied: inland soft areas which turn into slopes, narrow and deep basins at north, full of fields and forests southern valleys (deep & narrow),...

      Its main river is "River Piloña", which crosses the territory from east to west. Its southern tributaries are rivers "Tendi", "Color", "Pequeñu", "Valle", "La Marea" and "Espinareu"; nothern ones are rivers "Borines" and "Pintueles".
      This municipality has also got a very important network (railway line & different bus lines). Its main road is N-634 (Oviedo-Santander), but it has also got some regional and local roads, for instance: AS-255 to Villaviciosa; AS-258 and AS-259 to Colunga; AS-332 which links AS-258 to Villaviciosa; AS-254 to Campo de Caso, and AS-339 to Ponga.
      Economy is really developed in Piloña and there are three main sectors: Primary sector is based o products like milk, meat, apples and hazelnuts as well as fish farming and forest cultivation. Secondary sector is based on manufactured food products which are made in dairy product factories, and bottled mineral water factories located in Borines and Ques.
      Terciary sector, the most important, is based on trade, transport and hote industry. All together support Piloña's economy and have turned this municipality into a rich and wealthy area.
